Why we need Guy back on City Council
Robert (Guy) Heywood was 12 years old when his father, Robert (Bob) Heywood, was transferred to North Vancouver by the RCMP to be commanding officer of the local detachment. Guy graduated from Argyle, then went to UBC, Queens and Carleton for degrees in politics and business. Returned to raise two sons and worked in mining, forestry, banking, the funeral industry and renewable energy. Earned his CPA in 2015, the year after his second term on City Council, and has worked as an advisor to large companies and First Nations on financing and treasury management since then.
Guy has always been involved in the community, either as a volunteer or in an elected role, an ethos he learned from his dad Bob, who served two terms on City Council. Guy was elected three times to the School Board, serving from 1993 to 2001. He was a District appointee to the North Van Recreation Commission from 2001 to 2007 and was elected to the first of two terms on North Van City Council in 2008. Guy has also been a volunteer for North Shore Neighbourhood's volunteer tax filing service for over ten years, and has volunteered at St Andrew’s United Church for the last five years. Whether it’s picking up bread for the community kitchen and food distribution program or subbing in as a janitor when they need one, he is there to help.
